On entry to the school, pupils are allocated to a form and a tutor group, both of which are linked to one of the school’s six houses – Alverstone, Glenesk, Kingsley, Layton, Maclear and Major.
The tutor is the primary pastoral contact for each pupil. In addition to the tutor group meetings, pupils are encouraged to initiate a meeting with their tutor to discuss any issues that arise, no matter how trivial or serious, and pupils’ families are advised to liaise with the school through the tutor.
Learning enrichment is for all students in the school. Pupils new to the school are screened for possible underlying learning needs. This provides a clear understanding of pupils’ learning profiles, so that the best level of support can be offered, on an individual basis if necessary.
The LE department has an ‘open door’ policy and pupils are encouraged to pop in whenever they feel that they need some help.
