Blind soccer anyone?
This year the Junior School is celebrating its centenary. We are doing a number of the things to mark this occasion, including sponsoring a number of Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls. Nikki Emerson, the Paralympic sprinter and marathon competitor, spoke to our boys in assembly. Three years ago she broke her back in a car accident and is now confined to a wheelchair. Nikki makes light of this, however, and she told the boys about the history of the Paralympic Games and her own training schedules. Her relaxed manner and warm personality made a tremendous impact on the boys and they were delighted when Nikki was presented with a cheque for £1,500.00 by Andrew Durant, the Chairman of the Friends of KCS, which is our parents’ association. The Friends are providing the sponsorship for Nikki and the other sportsmen and sportswomen from their fund-raising activities. After the assembly Nikki stayed to take three PE lessons with some of the boys. They were introduced to blind soccer and sitting volleyball. It was all great fun and they were delighted to spend time with this inspiring young woman. She will be back at KCJS quite soon.
