Here Come the Girls!

The start of a new school year is always a time of change for students and staff but at King’s, after nearly 200 years of teaching boys, the gates have opened to Sixth Form girls. For the first time in the school’s history, this year’s Sixth Form intake includes forty two girls, drawn from over 20 day and boarding schools, independent and maintained.

Preparations for the girls’ arrivals have kept the school busy throughout the summer, from welcome barbeques, quizzes and uniform fittings to the more practical tasks of putting in new bathrooms and changing rooms. Nearly 200 girls applied for the coveted places, and Andrew Halls feels everyone will benefit, “There is no doubt the girls will challenge us, and put us on our mettle - but I know, too, that King’s has much to offer them in return. They will provide a breadth and balance to Sixth Form life that will complement the IB and give the school a new dimension.”
